My Dorm Room Makeup Organization

Hey everyone and happy almost Friday!! This week went so quick and I've been so busy with school. However, I managed to slip in this post before the hectic weekend.. my beauty organization in my dorm!! First off, here's a picture of my whole dorm room and then just the setup I have going on under my bed, which is lofted.
I have my eyeliners and lipliners in a simple plastic cup and I put the hairties around it to make it a little prettier.  For the brushes, I bought a plain jar for $3 from TJ Maxx and filled it with clear beads from Michael's craft store.  Above, I just have my deodorants and some nail polish (Nars, Essie, and Sephora Collection).

Above the three drawers I keep my makeup in, I have my lipstick holder that I got off of Amazon.com, a Caudalie beauty elixir, Origins Mega Bright Serum and Ole Henriksen Facial oil (that you can't see) and in the front I have my AM Serum, the Ole Henriksen Truth serum, and my PM serum, the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair (Synchronized Recovery Complex II).

Here is my lip, mascara, single shadows and gel liners drawer (I also have my MAC paint pot, Too Faced Shadow Insurance and Urban Decay Anti Aging Primer Potion in there too).  I'm really struggling as to how to organize this drawer since I am limited on space.

Below to the left is my founation/bronzer/concealer drawer, to the right is blush and highlighter.

In the desk drawers: To the left is the middle drawer that I keep my palettes in.  On the right is the top drawer, where I keep Q-Tips, Laura Mercier sponges, PTR Complexion Pads, lashes, samples, etc.

And lastly, in the main drawer I keep eye drops, primers, eye creams, lip scrubs, nail accessories, masks, and other things like that.

Here's the whole setup! Hope you guys enjoyed! Let me know if you have any questions! If you can link below any of your makeup setups, I'd love to see them!

Lux Haul! Sephora, Nordstrom, Saks, & Lush

I am a college student. Granted, I'm supposed to be saving money and spending my time studying. And NOT GOING ANYWHERE NEAR A MALL. However, my classes got cancelled one day last week and I just couldn't resist.  Keep in mind, I had gift cards.. so technically, I wasn't really spending money.... right?
I knew I needed two things: foundation and concealer. However, what I came back to the dorm with... was this.
(The boxes make it look a lot worse than it actually is).
So, first stop, I did what I went for and headed over to Nordstrom to pick up a full size of the Perfection Lumiere foundation.  I had tried a sample a few weeks ago but the Chanel salesperson at Saks was frustratingly nowhere to be found, so I chose Nordstrom this time instead.  Can I just tell you guys, this foundation is perfect.  I've been a longtime fan of the Vitalumiere Aqua, however, living in a building with no air conditioning has changed my skin from dry combination to as oily as it gets, and the Aqua just wasn't cutting it anymore, even mixed with my EL Doublewear Light. The Perfection, however, is a beautiful natural finish with slightly more coverage than the Aqua, but still the lightweight feeling you'd get from the other Chanel foundations.  I'm in love.
Next, I picked up the MAC Pro Longwear Concealer at the recommendation of a few people I follow on Instagram.  I had previously been using a combination of Amazing Cosmetics (which covers EVERYTHING but, due to the mineral oil, causes massive breakouts if I use it anywhere other than under my eyes) and the DiorSkin Nude concealer.  Both were great, the AC was a little thick and the Dior was a little sheer. So I opted for this one, and so far I'm really liking it.  I can see where people are saying it's a little drying, but if you're prepping with an eye cream (I like Smashbox's Photo Op Under Eye Primer for under concealer) its great. So far I've gotten about a 12 hour wear without a single budge or crease, not to mention the coverage is perfect for someone like me with moderate undereye circles. I also picked up the 215 brush to go with it and I'm loving using that for concealer application.

My next stop was to Sephora where I (thankfully) did not spend a cent.  Instead, I opted to use some of the points I've been hoarding forever.  I redeemed for GlamGlow (The greatest thing EVER.. review coming soon) and the Becca EverMatte primer.  Both are great and the Becca primer is helping my skin so much right now.
I also had to stop at Lush to pick up one of their sugar scrubs. Being in college, I don't really use Lush products all that much anymore (with the exception of scrubs and hair care) because there's no bath. But this scrub before shaving is amazing to use before self tanning, so I had to pick one up.  For $6.50, its supposed to be a one-time use thing, but I break it up and store the unused scrub in one of the old jars I'm saving to recycle so that I get more use out of it.
Lastly, on my way out of Saks, I stopped at Jo Malone.  When I was in Bloomingdale's in NYC this past spring, I began eyeing the Wild Bluebell Cologne.  And so, for surviving my first 3 papers of college successfully, I rewarded myself a little and took home the 1 oz bottle with me. I'm so in love, but I'm also so afraid to use it because I never want to use it up!

Have you guys picked anything great up lately in the beauty departments??
Until next time,
xoxo

Blue and Gold Eye Makeup Look

Hi guys!
First off, let me apologize for my SIX MONTH delay in blogging, things have been so crazy between graduating high school and starting college. However, now that things have settled down a little bit, I have a ton of new posts coming your way very, very soon.
So basically, what I did for this look was pretty simple-- I started with a really natural golden eye look and just brightened up the whites of the eyes by lining the lower lashline with a sublte blue shadow.  I know what you're thinking-- why would blue help brighten the whites of your eyes?! Well, to be honest... it doesn't.  What we're doing here is creating the ILLUSION of it by using a contrasting color to correct the redness, in this case, blue.
To do this look, I started with the Naked 2 Palette from Urban Decay.  I used Bootycall in the inner corners of the eyes, Half Baked for the all over color, and YDK in the crease.

For the bottom, I lined the lower lash line with the Chaos color from the Urban Decay Vice Palette (which will be coming up in a newer post...) and finished the look by tightlining the upper lash line with MAC Blacktrack Fluidline and YSL Shocking Mascara. L's brows are pretty full to begin with but I filled them in a little bit with a shadow from Make Up For Ever.
This look is so easy and can be worn day or night! It's definitely one of my go-to favorites now.

Thanks for reading! Until next time,
xoxo Lex

REVIEW: Sigma Essential Brush Set!

Happy Saturday!!
So yesterday, I was so excited to get THIS beautiful package in the mail....
The Sigma Essential Brush Kit!!
So for those of you who are unfamiliar with Sigma, they are a fairly new company who specialize in making professional-grade, MAC-quality brushes.  They have one store, which is at the Mall of America, so if you want to buy their products and don't feel like trekking to Minnesota, you will have to purchase online.  However, I found their website very easy to navigate and there are typically 10% off codes lurking everywhere for you to use :) They do ship internationally, as well!
But back to the eye candy..
(PS I am obsessed with the iridescence of their logo.  Doesn't really show up in the pictures but... so pretty).
I purchased the kit for around $96, they retail at $98, I used the 10% off card and then paid for shipping.
It comes with 12 brushes (I gave my E65 to a friend, since I already had 2 Sephora brushes that were really similar and she really wanted to try them as well).
The set includes 5 face brushes (F30 Large Powder- in the picture, F40 Large Angled Contour, F50 Duo Fibre, F60 Foundation, F70 Concealer) and 7 Eye Brushes (E05 Liner, E30 Pencil, E40 Tapered Blending, E55 Eye Shading, E60 Large Shader, E65 Small Angle, and E70 Medium Angled Shading).
Here are some close ups- they all have really nice handles and are the softest brushes I've ever touched.

Sorry for the picture quality-- the battery of my Canon is dead and I couldn't wait to get this post up!
So far, I am in LOVE with all of the face brushes (the concealer brush isn't necessarily my type- I like it to put the concealer ON to my eye, but to blend it, I prefer this Sephora Concealer Brush.
The Angled Contour is perfect for blush, bronzer, and highlighter.  I used it for my contour, but I can see it working perfectly with any of the three.  The powder works amazingly with both my MAC Studio Fix powder and my MUFE HD setting powder.  The stippling (or Duo Fibre) was used for my foundation, but as most of you know, stippling brushes are really versatile and can be used for pretty much anything. *This brush is the only one that is a synthetic and natural blend. The rest are synthetic.
For the eyes, my favorite is definitely the blending.  Its easy to work with and blends shadow flawlessly.
You will start seeing a lot more posts from me about these brushes because I can't wait to continue using them!

Hope you get a chance to check them out and thanks for reading!!
XOXO Lex

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with Sigma nor was this post sponsored by any of the above companies mentioned. I bought these with my own money. All opinions are honest and my own.

Mini Haul! Last one until IMATS!

Hi everyone!
So if you've been reading my blog for a while, you will know that I am attending IMATS NYC this year with my best friend!! I have never been to IMATS before and am beyond excited, so I've been saving up alllll of my money to make sure I have an amazing haul to post when I get home!! This will be my last one for a while, and here goes.

I am kind of ashamed to admit that I JUST bought my first Mac Paint Pot.  Is that bad? I feel like it is.  I purchased Bare Study, a beautiful champagne color with a hint of shimmer through it

I also purchased 2 Mac Sheen Supreme Lipsticks in Supreme Style (left) and Ultra Darling (right). They are both beautiful colors, and are really hydrating. Those are definitely on my list to get more of.

At Sephora, I picked up a Hanae Mori fragrance rollerball (which is such a warm, clean perfume.. I really like it) and also took advantage of their Valentine's Day-ish rollerball sampler set, which if you are not familiar with: you buy the set for $20, and it comes with five AMAZING fragrance samples. Then, you are cruelly forced to pick JUST ONE and get a free rollerball of the chosen scent.  This was perfect because the rollerball I picked (Viktor and Rolf's Flowerbomb) was $25 dollars to begin with. So, essentially I got the rollerball for $5 off.  Eventually I will be purchasing a full size because that is my new favorite perfume.  Maybe of all time, even.  Just when I thought you couldn't beat Abercrombie.. :)
Lastly, I got this adorable crossbody bag from Aldo. It was really cheap and is my favorite color (Tiffany Box Blue!!), even though the picture doesn't do it justice. It's the perfect size for me.

That's it for my last haul until April!! Thanks for reading, hope you loved it :)

Formal Makeup + The BEST Foundation and Concealer EVER.

Hey, guys!
First of all, I am so sorry for the delay in my blogging, it has been absolutely forever!! I have been so busy with work and school, and I am finally enjoying my day off by getting back into blogging!!
I am super excited to announce that I just ordered my very first Sigma brush set!! I ordered the Essentials Kit and I can't wait for it to arrive.  My order is being processed as I type :)

So anyways,  I have a formal makeup look to share with you guys! I did my friend's makeup for her winter formal. K, thank you for letting me put this up, you looked stunning!!

Here are the products I used:
Laura Mercier Radiance Primer
NARS Sheer Glow Foundation*
Dior Nude Concealer*
Mac Studio Fix Powder
Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer
Mac Amber Glow Blush+ NARS Orgasm Blush
Benefit Watt's Up
Stila Kitten
UD Virgin, Suspect, YDK and Busted (All from the Naked and Naked 2 palettes)
Bobbi Brown black gel eyeliner
Korres Volcanic Mascara
Tarte Lip Surgence in Exposed

You may be wondering why the Foundation and Concealer are starred.. and that is because I am mentioning them down here.  These are my two favorite face products OF. ALL. TIME. and yes, I get that they are expensive but they are totally worth it. I know that the concealer will last me a long time... and I know that the foundation will not (probably about a month for the whole bottle). The only bad thing that I can say about the foundation is that the Sephora ones do not have a pump. I will probably need to shell out the 12.50 or whatever the pumps are going for on Amazon :/. But anyways, I use shade 002 in the concealer and currently Deauville (pronounced "deweville") in the foundation, although I know that will be changing once the sunshine decides to grace my side of the country again. They provide flawless results and just enough coverage so that you don't look cakey or overdone.  Perfection.

So again, I apologize again and again for my absence, it won't happen again!! I have a few little hauls to share with you but I promised myself that there would be NO MORE after my Sigma brush set because of IMATS NYC!!!!

Thanks for reading! Talk to you soon,

XOXO Lex

HAUL-iday!!

Hey guys! I know, I know... 2 posts in one day?! WHAT IS THIS!?
If you must know, there is a torrential downpour of SNOW and I am currently snowed in and snuggled up with a cup of tea and my MacBook. Over the weekend I took advantage of the end of my no-buy and celebrated by 1. Donating!! I decided to donate some canned food and clothes to the local homeless shelter.  and 2. Shopping!! WOOO!
Here are the clothes part first (Note: These are all size small.. don't ask why some look like XXS and some look like XXL.  I am awful at photography.  That is my only excuse).
Aldo Hermignonne Sandal
Express Sequin Dress (Which is much more turquoise in person)
Express Red Peplum Top
Forever 21 Polka Dot top
This is probably my favorite.  It came with a little tie on it but I cut it off, I wasn't a big fan!

AND NOW... Here is comes.. the beauty part!!
So if you scroll back a couple of posts earlier, I had a lot of these items on my wish list.  I am really excited about them!! I have yet to be disappointed with any of them.
1. I put these first because they are the items I'm the most excited about!!! THE URBAN DECAY OZ PALETTES!!! I originally went into Sephora dead set on the Glinda.  But I looked... swatch.. debated.. and I came home with both.  They are INCREDIBLE!! And although they are $49 each, you get a lip pen (similar to the NARS Velvet Lip Pencils), 4 single shadows, 2 doubles, and an eyeliner!! I also love that you can pop out the trays when you're finished and pop in UD single eyeshadows.  I will be posting a few tutorials soon with how-to's using these palettes.  (I also swatched the lip pencils below with the Lipglass.)
2. LaVanilla The Healthy Deodorant- smells SO good!! I highly recommend this. I am even liking this more than my typical Dove Clinical Strength!!
3. MAC LipGlass in Nymphette- Up there with Dior Addict as my favorite lip gloss ever. Not sticky, beautiful color.  Also has a really good vanilla-y smell. :)
From left to right- UD Lip Pen from Theodora, From Glinda, and Nymphette!

4. NARS Sheer Glow Foundation in Deauville- I have found my new staple foundation!! Although I am sad to see my Urban Decay Naked go, I decided to go for this one.  It is much more hydrating.  The only downside is that the ones in Sephora stores don't come with a pump... it is slightly aggravating.  If I go through the entire bottle and still love it, I may be searching for a pump on EBay.  That is one warning that I think everyone should know.. the testers have pumps!!! WHY CAN'T THE BOTTLES!! (Sorry, my mini-tangent is over.) I love this foundation though.  I warm it up on my hand and then apply using my BeautyBlender. It gives  a soft glow and a ton of hydration.
5. MAC Mineralized Eye Shadow in Love Connection
I originally wanted this solely for the lighter, veined color.  It is similar to Stila Kitten, a favorite shadow of mine, so I purchased this one.  The two colors together (the second is a bright gold) are beautiful.  I may have found a new favorite!
Close up:

6. Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer
So, after being on the search for a bronzer for months and after many failures, I finally found my new favorite.  It's soft, blendable, pigmented, and smells like.. wait for it.. CHOCOLATE!! Seriously. Every time I open it I get excited because you just get a whiff of cocoa.  It is perfect, and makes me very happy. I have never been this excited about a bronzer, ever.
7. MAC Mineralized Blush in Amber Glow
I went in for Dainty.  I swatched. Amber Glow caught my eye. Salesperson Amber, not blush Amber, showed it to me as a highlighter and blush all in one.  I took blush Amber home with me. And I love it. :) (One thing I will say- because it is mineralized it isn't as pigmented as MAC's regular blushes and is slightly messier, in my opinion. The color is worth it)!

8. Smashbox Love Me Palette
I LOVE this palette!! It is a close second to the Urban Decay palettes.  The colors in it are soft, really highly pigmented, and so different.  The teal blue is probably my favorite so far.

That's all for today.. I promise!! Next up are some tutorials using these amazing palettes :)
Thanks for reading!

Sigma New-ness, Announcements and January Favorites!

Hi, guys! Hope you are all having a wonderful Monday!

Some exciting news.. Sigma (www.sigmabeauty.com) released their eye shadow bases today!! I am so excited, I am ordering as I type! They come in 9 different shades and I have no clue how I am going to pick between them.  They also just released a single eyeshadow collection that I can't wait to try out either.

So, with my January no-buy (which did not go as well as planned.. :/) I rediscovered things that I already had that are amazing.  Here are a few that I have been totally in love with for the month of January.
Trying to go from left to right here, these are the names of the products and a short description:
1. Sephora by O.P.I. Nail Polish in "Chest-nuts About You"!
This color is a perfect neutral that I feel can be worn year-round.  I love the metallic bronze because it's a shake up from traditional nail polish. I have it on right now! Here's an additional picture, since I don't think the one above does the color justice.

2. Tarte MultiplEYE Lash Primer
I was definitely one of those people who always said lash primers were so unnecessary. It was until I tried this one that I saw the difference.  No matter what mascara I apply it with, I see a dramatic difference between when I use it and when I use mascara alone.  A tip for those who want to try it: put the primer on one eye, immediately follow it with mascara, and THEN do the other eye.  If you give it time to dry you don't get the full effect.
3/4. Benefit Moon Beam & Benefit Watt's Up!
Highlighters are always a must for me.  I love the way they light up your face and to me, they are just as necessary as bronzer.  They completely change the way your makeup looks.  These two are my absolute favorite.  Moon beam starts out as a golden liquid and then blends into this iridescent golden purple.  Its beautiful.  The Watt's Up is a stick and you have to blend it right away, but I love using this one on the brow bone. It's a really pretty champagne color, which also makes for a great eyeshadow color AND base.  I swatched the two below:
On the left is Moon Beam, and the right is Watt's Up.  (I apologize for the not-so-great swatches... they really are beautiful!! I didn't blend the Watt's Up at all so you could see the true color, but you can see the iridescence in the Moon Beam.)
5. Alterna Bamboo 48-Hour Sustainable Volume Spray
There really isn't much to say about this one.  I use it every day, right before I blow dry.  You can absolutely tell the difference between it and not using any product.  The only downside is that a lot come out with each spritz.. I received this for Christmas and am almost finished with the bottle after a little over a month.  I know I use it every day but still.. I definitely thought it would last a little longer!! It is still by far the greatest volumizing spray I have ever used.  Another great drugstore alternative that is similar to this one is the L'Oreal Ever Strong Volumizing Spray.
6. Peter Thomas Roth Lashes to Die For Liquid Eye Liner
While I am not so sure about the lash-growing benefits, I love this liner.  It is a marker-type that is very fine pointed, but can be turned on its side to draw thicker lines.  I have a verrrryyyy shaky hand when applying eyeliner (especially liquid) and I find this very easy to use.  I have yet to see dramatic results from my lashes, but I definitely see that they are a little thicker than usual.  Results or not, I will continue to use this liner.
7. Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray
When this went on sale for $12 for the EXTRA LARGE bottle on Urban Decay's website, I had to have it.  I am a primer advocate, but didn't realize how much longer your makeup lasts when you apply a setting spray over it.  This one is my favorite, but for those with oily skin, I would suggest the De-Slick (Similar formula, but for oil control).
8. Clinique Butter Shines in 437 "Pink-A-Boo" and 415 "Berry Blush"
I have been totally loving these lately.  They are really pretty, sheer colors that are great for everyday wear.  The pink isn't obnoxious, but is still noticeable whenever you wear it. The berry color is more of a mauve/nude color than a berry, but you still get a tint with it.  They aren't the longest-wearing (they have a similar wear to Fresh Sugar lip treatments) but are really hydrating.  I swatched them below (Pink-a-Boo on the left, Berry Blush on the right):
9. Dior Addict Ultra Gloss Pearl- Shade 157
I am not a big lip-gloss kind of person.  I much rather prefer lipsticks or, if I want some shine, the Fresh Sugar lip balms or the Butter Shines from Clinique.  However, I do love this gloss.  It has a really pretty shine and a slight shimmer to it, and flatters every lip color you try it over.   Not to mention it looks great by itself.  The consistency isn't thick or sticky, and it doesn't wear right off like most glosses I've tried.  I will definitely be purchasing more of these in the near future.
10. Abercrombie and Fitch "One" Women's Perfume
So I will admit, being a previous employee of the A&F company, I am a die-hard fan of their perfumes (and colognes, for that matter... they smell amazing!) They have the perfect mix of florals and freshness.  This one is my favorite of all time.  It has adorable, classic packaging.  The notes in it are Peony, Tangelo, and White Pepper.  Definitely worth trying out.  This will be a long time favorite for me.

And that is my list!! Now that love is in the air for the month of February, what have you been in love with lately?
I have a ton of posts coming up soon (Hauls, looks, organization!), so stay tuned!
Have a great night,
Lex

Beauty Product Wishlist

Hi everyone!
In the northeast we got POUNDED with snow... and I am snowed in. :(
While I wish I could get to work/school/someplace outside my house, I am going to be relaxing for the remainder of my weekend.
So, out of sheer boredom, I have been torturing myself for the last hour or so with looking at beauty products that I cannot buy for another week.  (For those of you new readers, I am majorly trying to save money for IMATS by not shopping for all of January).  The no-buy has been going well, and I think other than two days where I know I will absolutely be buying things (1. Winter formal=makeup consultation=NECESSARY $50 minimum purchase that I am more than happy to oblige to and 2. buying a Valentine's Day present for my boyfriend), I am going to try and keep it up.  I have some really awesome reviews coming up in the next few weeks to put on here that I hope you all like!

That all being said, here is my wish list: (all pictures taken from Google images)

In Order:
Essie Nail Polish in Barefoot and Topless- I have been eyeing this for a while.  I think it would be a perfect color for the rest of winter and into spring and summer.  Nude polish has been really popular lately, and it goes with every outfit. (Target)
Urban Decay OZ Eye Shadow Palette in Glinda- I saw this on Urban Decay's twitter account and then saw that they released it online this week (it isn't expected to hit stores until March!!) and with each blogger who posts pictures I am falling more and more in love. It has my favorite UD 24/7 pencil in it, 6 pans of shades (2 duos!) and a lip gloss pen (that reminds me of the Nars Matte Velvet Lip pencils).  I am going to try to hold out until Sephora.com gets it in, which is expected to be very soon. UD has been nailing it lately in the industry and has been launching so many new and amazing products. (urbandecay.com)
MAC Mineralized Skin Finish in Porcelain Pink- Although I am a big MAC fan, I have yet to try one of their MSF products.  I have heard amazing things about them.. but this is the particular one I wanted to try the most, and my MAC counter has been out for weeks.  I am really starting to get worried because it is a limited edition product and I'm not quite ready to start hunting for it at CCO's.  I feel like every time I go to buy a different one, I don't like it as much as I like the swatch of the Porcelain Pink, and I end up buying a mineralized blush instead (by the way.. check those out, I am loving Amber Glow and Dainty lately!). (maccosmetics.com)
NARS Sheer Glow Foundation in Deauville- I tried a sample of this at Sephora and love it.  I am running low on my UD Naked Skin liquid foundation and am ready to purchase a new bottle.. so I may be giving this a try.  It is designed to be hydrating, and with my dry skin, it is definitely something I am looking forward to. (Sephora)
YSL Glossy Stain in No. 7 "Corall Aquatique"- This product must be on every blogger's list that I follow here on Blogger.  This particular color is one I have only seen online, but the color looks beautiful.  The stain is supposed to be really long-wearing and hydrating, which is an issue I've been having with a lot of my MAC lipsticks lately.  While the cost is up there a little ($32 would make it the most expensive lip product I own), I am still debating whether or not it is worth it. Any thoughts? (Sephora)
Lancome STAR Mascara- I am in love with this mascara.  If you are a big fan of full, long lashes (and who isn't?) this is for you.  I received a sample of it in one of those "spend $25 and get one of these sample bags" early in October, and at first I was a little sketched out by it.  It is flat on two sides and has really long, fluffy bristles on the ends.  I thought, "how could the flat side ever be beneficial?" and surprisingly, its awesome.  I will use it by swiping the flat side on first, and then defining with the bristles.  Not to mention, the bottle is beautiful.  (Macy's, Sephora)
Glam Glow Super Mud Clearing Mask- Go back a couple of posts to see my review on this. I do not need to say more.  It is the single most amazing skin care treatment that there is, and I am desperately running low.  I dread when that day comes, and so I am ready to stock up.  (Sephora)
Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Orchid - I have a Caviar stick in Amethyst already, and when I bought it, I felt the colors were all really dark.  I was so excited to find out that they came out with all new colors that were light and perfect for spring.  This color is beautiful, soft, blendable, and long-wearing.  I love using it as a base and also alone.  (Sephora)

That's my list!!! What's on yours? Any opinions on mine? Feel free to comment below :)
